Packaging design for Reydon Sports: From concept to completion

Our journey on this project started with a simple question from an existing client. They asked if we could handle packaging design. This taught us an important lesson: we cannot assume everyone knows our capabilities, even if we have worked with them previously. Therefore, we decided to showcase this project in our portfolio to highlight our expertise in packaging design.

Research and concept development

Reydon Sports, the UK’s largest sports wholesale distributor, approached us when they wanted packaging design concepts for their exercise equipment.

First, we researched their competitors to get a good feel for what is appropriate within this space. The insight gained from this stage guided every design decision moving forward.

Next, we created multiple design concepts based on this research. We presented them to the client. They loved the variety of designs presented. The clear options helped them quickly choose a favourite.

Finalising designs and collaboration

After settling on the final design for three products, we worked with their overseas suppliers to create the artwork for the boxes. This ensured a smooth move from concept to production. It also kept the brand consistent across all products.

Client satisfaction

Des Hodgson, Manager at Reydon Sports, praised the collaboration:

We produce a lot of our design work in-house, but sometimes we feel it needs another pair of eyes… a different perspective, so we contacted BLU:72 Creative. They initially rebranded our American sports line Midwest. We were so pleased with what they did, that when it came to creating packaging design concepts for our fitness equipment, we were more than happy to work with them again.

This project shows the importance of research, teamwork, and clear communication. It also shows how good design can boost brand identity and product appeal.

What next?

After completing this project, we moved on to create the packaging design for Swimtech, Reydon Sports’ upcoming new range of swimming products. We look forward to building an even closer relationship with Des and his team in the future.
