From a creative point of view, the evolution of the Google logo has been a slow process. I for one have never liked the logo itself, but understand the need for clarity and that the logo is just a stopping off point as people come to Google to search, learn and find new things. The colours have always jarred with me, like a cheap logo for a local entertainer called ‘Google the clown’, but hey, design is subjective right. Read more
DC Comics have unveiled some very clever cover designs this week that mimic famous movie posters from the Warner Bros. film archives.

To anybody not in the field of design, Dieter Rams is German industrial designer born in 1932 who has become one of the most recognised and influential industrial designers around today.
You might not know him, or recognise the name… but you’ll recognise his influence on design over the last 60 years.
Every year since 2003 we have been involved with the branding for the annual Croydon College FE Awards evening. This year we were proud yet again, to co-sponsor the event. We also sponsored the winners within the Art and Design categories. Our Creative Director, Mark Leary, presented the winners with their awards in front of a large audience that had come along to celebrate the young students achievements.
The theme we went for this year was ‘Creating Brighter Futures’ and to visualise this we created the main typography using neon sign lettering. When we arrived at the venue it was great to see all the items we had designed in use, such as the programme, name badges, table cards and banners and it was equally nice to hear positive feedback from attendees who loved the design. After Steve Jobs… some critics feel that Apple is losing its magic touch. Today it made a bold appointment by poaching Angela Ahrendts, the CEO of Burberry. This was swiftly followed by news that Apple have another event coming up next week just as rumoured. The word on the street (from Huggy Bear apparently) is that we might see various new products such as a brand new iPad, but other more crazy rumours are also doing the rounds. As designers we also have a keen interest in Photography, so when we saw these images of lightning striking the Grand Canyon, we just had to share them.
A photographer called Rolf Maeder had set up his camera at the south rim of the canyon, and with a tripod and a long exposure setting, managed to capture these fantastic shots of the lightning bolts lighting up the stormy sky.
